XUCHILBARA THE RED GOD by Lobsel Vith

First the Red God.

I strongly believe that The Red God Xuchilbara is none other than Valtiel.

In Silent Hill 2, and SH2:BFAW there are articles that tell who and what Xuchilbara/paba does.

From the Crimson Ceremony

Speak.
I am the Crimson One.
The lies and the mist are
not they but I.
You all know that I am One.
Yes, and the One is I.

Believers hearken to me!
Twenty score men and
seven thousand beasts.
Heed my words and speaketh them
to all, that they shall ever be
obeyed even under the light of
the proud and merciless sun.

I shall bring down bitter vengeance
upon thee and thou shalt suffer
my eternal wrath.

The beauty of the withering flower
and the last struggles of the dying
man, they are my blessings.

Thou shalt ever call upon me and
all that is me in the place that is
silent.

Oh, proud fragrance of life which
flies towards the heart. Oh Cup
which brims with the whitest of
wine, it is in thee that all begins.

If you remember correctly this book was required in order to receive the rebirth ending in which James performs the ceremony of the "Resurrection of the Dead." on his wife.

In BFAW we find this memo.

"Lost Memories"

"Lost Memories"

I have the strongest trust - you may
even call it faith - in the miracle
called "Resurrection of the Dead".

Upon the hill where
the light descended,
the Beast intoned his song.
With words of blood,
drops of mist and
the vessel of night,
the grave become an open field.

The people wept in fear and joy
at the reunion, but my faith in the
salvation of Xuchilpaba did not
waver.

It is also spoken of in the ancient
legends. The original worshippers
did not believe that death was the
end but that it was simply the path
by which the deceased returned to
nature. They also believed the
process was reversible.

By evident of those two articles from SH2 Xuchilbara is the God/Angel of Rebirth.  By reading Lost Memories/Translated Memories we find out that Valtiel is the same.

Found on http://translatedmemories.com/bookpgs/Pg84-85.jpg

"An angel in the town's religious organization that governs the cycle of rebirth, he appears as a symbol of the otherworld"

That's the first big evidence that Valtiel is the Red God Xuchilbara.

Valtiel and Xuchilbara are depicted as the governing angels of rebirth.

Then there's the subliminal thought that Xuchilbara controls the shift from world to world.

From the Crimson Ceremony

The lies and the mist are
not they but I.

Looking at this from a symbolic/metaphorical standpoint those two lines suggest "The Otherworld." Lies and mist is another term for delusions, false reality, an otherworld if you will.

Valtiel and Xuchilbara control the shift from world to world.

Some more interesting things about Xuchilbara.

1.  The name Xuchilbara is derived from the Aztec Words Xuchil and Bara which mean Flower Spear.

2. From http://www.smaarts.com/san-miguel-9.html many cities in Mexico use the Xuchil for their arrangements in the Day of the Dead/Di'a de Muertos celebrations.

3. According to http://www.three-musketeers.net/mike/colors.html

Red can symbolize many things; from blood, to love, to infatuation. Basically red symbolizes strong emotions, or things of strong emotions rather than intellectual ideas. For example, red can symbolize excitement, energy, speed, strength, danger, passion, and aggression. According to Henry Dreyfus, it is popularly felt that red, the color of blood and fire, represents life and vitality. Red also signifies the color of the sun: a symbol of energy, radiating its vitalizing life-force into human beings. Red is also looked upon as a sensual color, and can be associated with man's most profound urges and impulses.  Ironically, red cats symbolize bad luck.

The bold part sound familiar, no?

4. According to Lost Memories http://translatedmemories.com/bookpgs/Pg84-85.jpg Valtiel is represented by the Magician Tarot Card.

From http://www.crystalinks.com/tarot.html here's the synopsis of the Magician Tarot Card.

The magician represents the conscious mind. With focus on an idea or goal, the conscious mind sets into action these ideas and brings them forth to the material world. The magicians hands are stretched forth, one to the sky holding a wand, and the other pointing to the ground below. This is suggestive that as is "as above, so below". The table in front of him has all the tools to make this possible. The wand, cup, sword, and pentacle, which are representative of all the suits to the tarot cards. The mage has an undergarment of pure white, showing his pure wisdom and is held shut by the serpent around his waist. The outer garment is red, symbolic of desire and passion, which has no belt holding it shut so it can be removed if necessary. The flowers in the garden represent things as well. The red roses are symbolic of desires, and the white lilies represent pure thought, untainted by desire. This card is under the vibration of the number 1.

There's some food for thought.
